Segway Stuff:

I was sent a Segway by a great company. Unfortunately this company no longer exists as a company meaning I had no reason to review the Segway. Now instead of me reviewing my Segway on it's own, I plan to talk about the basics with a Segway such as how to drive one, where to get one, and what features to look out for.

Firstly, Segways we designed by a chinese company nearly two years ago yet they've only just been allowed out for public use. Currently these Segways are now illegal in the UK which not only is very annoying and unfair, it's also where I live....

This rule is ridiculous as at the end of the day, what damage can i tiny bit of plastic do to anyone except the rider when it's travelling at 8-15mph. I say both speeds as they first gen models like mine run at a max of 12k/mh which works out at around 8 whereas the second gen models now run at a top speed of roughly 15 mph which is rather impressive.

Controlling a Segway is actually rather easy. You require fairly good balance and either a lot of courage or stupidity. The best way to learn how to drive a Segway is by going into a shop and asking to try on out as you are "planning to buy one" or asking an owner for a quick tutorial/go. Some owners like to give out there Segway for users to try out but some aren't comfortable with it as they are rather expensive and look bad when scratched up. Basically you put your right foot on to the right side, making sure your foot is pressed right up against the arch and then do the same with your left foot just on the left side. From here it's just about leaning forwards to go forward and backwards to go backwards......obviously.

If you are looking into buying one, there are certain places to stay away from such as dodgy looking companies on places like PirateBay and sometimes eBay. The best way is through Amazon as it's safe and secure. I got mine from a company based on Amazon which made me feel confident when ordering as I had some back up if it went down hill. Prices range from £200 all the way up to £1000+ depending on where and who you buy it from. If you are stuck on a budget, I recommend buyinga chinese "fake" as they work exactly the same and are a lot cheaper. The only downside to these "fake" segways is that you have to wait a long time for them to arrive. I bought mine from Shanghai and it took over a month to arrive, please note that the wait is well worth it.

Finally, If you are stuck which one to choose, please bare a few things in mind. Firstly, the Segways with the Samsung batteries are way better as they last a lot longer. Secondly, try to get one with the arch grips on as they protect the arches when the Segway rolls if you fall off. Without the grips you will most definetly scratch up your Segway making it look ugly and unattractive. Thirdly, try to purchase one with a key. The key makes it easier to turn on and off from a distance which stops strangers just jumping on it whenever they want and also means you don't have to constantly bend over to turn it off. If you keep the Segway on for a long time it will obviously die so being able to turn it off via a button from 10 metres or so is very useful and saves battery meaning you can ride it outside for longer and have a better time out on it.
